Brentwood Deaf Church

NEED: 1 student

MISSION: To assist the staff of Brentwood Deaf Church with their summer program in ministering to and teaching children at their summer camp who are either deaf or have family members who are deaf.

PARTNERS: 1 student will be appointed by TN BCM; additional team members will be appointed by the North American Mission Board or by other state BCM's

TERM OF SERVICE: May 26 - August 7

RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is for one to serve with Brentwood Baptist Deaf Church through Camp SummerSign and with the Youth and Worship Ministries. The primary roles of this position would involve transporting children in minivans, teaching various classes such as Bible Study, drama, recreation and others, and disciplining the children. Camp SummerSign is an 8 week Day Camp designed for Deaf children, hearing siblings and hearing children with Deaf parents. It’s primary mode of staff is sign language, however, many of the younger hearing children arrive with no sign skill and thus we use verbal communication with them. This person would be a mediator and interpreter between the Deaf child and his/her hearing parents. The majority of Deaf children live in homes of which the parents do not sign or have less than 50 sign vocabulary. This position has the opportunity to connect the child with the parents and connect the church with the family. This position will allow many opportunities of sharing their faith, evangelism with the families in the community as well. This position also works with the Student Minister of BBDC on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings and will be available to the Tech Crew for Worship on Sunday mornings. Intermediate Skill Level in American Sign language required.

COST: $150 (this includes meals, lodging, and all field costs for the summer) A $60 weekly stipend is provided by TN BCM.
